Fresh Southern Green Beans

I made these for my first Thanksgiving with my “in-loves” and they loved them! It’s enough for a large group and is easy to make. The key is fresh green beans. Don’t cut corners with canned or frozen! You’ll thank me later.

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds of fresh green beans
  • 12 ounces of salt-cured pork, sliced
  • 2 teaspoons of Mrs. Dash table blend seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 2 cups of warm water
Instructions
  1. Cut fresh green beans in half on large cutting board and set aside.
  2. In a large wok or pan of your choice, cook the salt pork on medium heat.
  3. Add 2 cups of warm water to pan.
  4. Add beans.
  5. Add more water to cover beans, if necessary. Water should reach at least 1 inch over beans.
  6. Add pepper and Mrs. Dash and stir well, bringing to a low boil.
  7. Cover pot and reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove from heat.
  9. Once cooled, place in refrigerator overnight if cooking in advance.
  10. Heat to warm over medium-low before serving.

Note: The flavor intensifies overnight. However, the beans can be served immediately if you are cooking the dish the day of.
